Lake Placid welcomed international competitors earlier this month for a World Cup Luge competition at Mount Van Hoevenberg. It was a very emotional weekend for Saranac Lake’s Chris Mazdzer, the 4-time Winter Olympian, who announced the competition would be his last. Chris Mazdzer won a career 24 World Cup medals, including a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. He says none of it would have been possible without the years of preparation and hard work that he put in at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
His family and countless supporters traveled for hours to watch Mazdzer wrap up his historic sliding career, right where it all started. The weekend world cup in Lake Placid was his final competition. And while Mazdzer didn’t have the best run of his career, he placed 13th overall in the weekend competition, he says the weekend at Mt. Van Hoevenberg was one of his most memorable.
