Wood Chips Removing Toxins From Lake George

A new project using a first-of-its-kind technology is keeping harmful toxins & pollution out of Lake George. The town of Bolton Landing and the Lake George Association have teamed up for the past two years using a new bioreactor that uses woodchips to help clean the water by filtering out nitrates. Nitrates can cause toxic algae blooms to grow. The results have been nothing short of amazing. The wood chips have eliminated about 40% of the nitrates and kept them from getting into the lake. The thought is this is a technology that could not only boost the timber industry, but also dozens of other small communities in the Adirondacks trying desperately to keep their lakes & waterways clean.
