The Lake Champlain Basin Program is kicking off a new artist-in-residence program that’s intended to give Lake Champlain a musical voice. Eco-Composer Glenn McClure from Paul Smith’s College is bringing together 3 musicians who will compose musical works based on the data that scientists gather from Lake Champlain and its tributaries. McClure & the Basin Program’s Mae Kate Campbell showed those who gathered at the Goodsell Ridge Preserve in Isle La Motte, Vermont recently how the massive amounts of data that researchers and buoys gather from the lake and its watershed can be converted into melodies. This summer’s severe flooding will provide a lot of data for the musicians, and over the next two years their compositions will be performed by choirs and orchestras in Northern New York and Quebec.
