On Home Ground takes an intimate look into the lives of three veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan who have returned to their Adirondack homes. After all the sacrifice, when does home finally feel like home again?
About the Film
Following a slow military withdrawal, American troops are returning home to face of a different set of conflicts.
On Home Ground takes us on a journey of re-assimilation into civilian life with veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars living along the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York. Their small hometowns are scenic and peaceful… but also remote and isolating. The physical distance means limited access to essentials like healthcare, and a struggling local economy contributes to the widespread unemployment for veterans.
Years after coming back, each vet reflects on their homecoming, rebuilding relationships, grappling with physical and mental changes, and finding a unique, grounding camaraderie among fellow veterans.
