Across New York State and in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties new records were set for the turnout of voters taking advantage of Early Voting. The Board of Elections says almost 9-thousand people voted early in person in Clinton County. That’s nearly a 20% increase from the 2020 presidential election. In 2024, the Board of Elections says there were more first-time voters and more registered Republicans turning out to vote early in Clinton County.
North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik easily won re-election in New York’s 21st district over her Democratic Challenger Paula Collins. New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand also won re-election. In local races, Assemblymembers Billy Jones & Matt Simpson won re-election as did State Senator Dan Stec. All three ran unopposed.
In the Mayor’s race in Plattsburgh, Democrat Wendell Hughes will be the new mayor, come January, taking over for Chris Rosenquest who decided not to seek a second term. Hughes celebrated on Tuesday evening after getting 54% of the vote to beat out former Mayor Don Kasprzak.
