Trade War Looming with Canada

Just hours before they were set to begin, major tariffs on all imports coming into the U.S. from Canada were put on hold for one month as Canada agrees to take more steps to reduce the number of migrants and illegal fentanyl crossing the Northern Border. Prime Minister Trudeau, in a post on X, pledging millions more including nearly 10-thousand frontline personnel & new technology like Blackhawk helicopters to patrol the border, as well as a commitment to appoint a Fentanyl Czar.

The question now, whether it will be enough to delay the threatened 25% tariffs beyond 30 days. Here in the North Country concern over the tariffs was on the minds of many in the community who gathered at the annual Chamber of Commerce Breakfast. The Chamber’s CEO, Garry Douglas, worries what impact steep tariffs could have on cross-border trade and tourism.
