Robert Schumann’s Dichterliebe song cycle appears to have little in common with contemporary jazz. Yet in the upcoming program that the Trillium Chamber Players will present in Elizabethtown and Lake Placid, bass Tom Stork and pianist Timothy Mount will present Dichterliebe in the first half, followed by jazz by trumpeter John Blevins and keyboard player Toby Couture after intermission. And while the two sound worlds remain worlds apart, the emotional depth at the core of this music shows that the two art forms have more in common than what initially meets the eye — or the ear.
