This Thanksgiving explore the Beauty of Movement and the Power of Dreams

Live entertainment has the power to connect friends and family through fun and exciting experiences.

This Thanksgiving week come and explore the beauty of movement through dance and figure skating while exploring the depths , heights and horizons of everything humans wish to achieve.

Carmina Burana and Stabat MATER, presented by Les Grands Ballets at Place des Arts until October 19

Composed between 1935 and 1936 by Carl Orff, Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata based on 24 poems from the medieval collection Carmina Burana. Its full Latin title is Carmina Burana: Cantiones profanae.

Flash forward to 2019, Modern Romanian Choreographer Edward Clug’s re imagines in a most grandiose way this monumental piece that offers an in-depth look at humanity and offers a physical tableau of hope and love expressed through the beauty of dance.

We sense the weight of human’s existence from the ballet’s epic opening, O Fortuna that portrays 40 dancers forming a circle while moving to the rousing sounds and voices of 70 musicians from the Grand Ballets Orchestra, 40 choral singers and 3 distinguished soloists (soprano Aline Kutan, tenor Spencer Britten and bass-baritone Alexandre Sylvestre) that sets the wheels of destiny in motion.

The theme of the wheel of destiny is central to this work in which Man is powerless in facing its uncertain future.

It is captivating to see the dancers swirl, attract and exchange expressions of love and hope with their supply body movements. The energy that radiates from the group’s numerous interactions is quite magnetic.

Carmina Burana teaches the audience what it means to be human and along with the timeless beauty of the score, this piece is a veritable ode to life!

The ballet is preceded by Clug’s earlier piece Stabat MATER that was first presented in 2017 in Montreal . It depicts the Passion of the Christ and the pain of the Blessed Virgin …. A truly moving piece.
