This Saturday, the Jazz is Live!

Three musicians from Plattsburgh ignite the stage with live jazz.

Hailing from Plattsburgh, NY, the Wickmoore Jazz Trio is comprised of brothers Nelson and Eli Moore (originally from Saranac, NY) on drums and bass respectively, combined with Vihan Wickramasinghe (originally from Sri Lanka) on piano. Together, the three rip through jazz standards, funk favorites, and contemporary staples alike. They have gained a reputation throughout the North Country for providing a dynamic entertainment experience in restaurants, breweries, wineries, festivals, weddings, private functions, and now, socially distanced drive-in concerts!

The trio’s musical explorations stemmed from their time spent together as members of the Plattsburgh State Mambo Combo, and have since expanded into ventures with groups versed in funk, soul, gospel, hip hop, and psychedelic rock. Their debut album “Lounge Lizards” was released earlier this month on Cricket Records.

Each Saturday evening through early September, musicians are performing on the stage of the city’s portable bandshell, stationed in the parking lot near Dock Street, close to the Plattsburgh City Marina.

Tickets are available (cash only) on the evening of each performance at the Harborside Lot entrance. Vehicles will be parked first-come, first-served by the volunteer parking attendants on site. All attendees must bring with them a face mask to wear whenever they exit their vehicles. No alcohol and no pets will be allowed on site. Refreshments will be available for sale before and during the concerts.

It was a family trip to a drive-in movie theatre in Colchester, Vermont, that inspired Plattsburgh native Benjamin Pomerance to send an email to Plattsburgh Mayor Colin Read asking about introducing a similar concept for concerts to bring live music back to the area.

A grassroots community effort arose from there, with Mayor Read and Pomerance joining forces with area arts leaders such as Artistry Community Theatre President Derrick A. Hopkins, Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz Producer Laura Carbone, and audio engineer Russell Feher to bring this idea to fruition.
