The Segal Centre for Performing Arts is one of Montreal`s premiere destinations for world class English theater and beyond. This October , they will re-open their doors and welcome back audiences to the theatre with the up-lifting and emotionally charged Every Brilliant Thing by playwrights Duncan McMillan / Johnny Donahoe.
This cheerful and heartwarming play is directed by Dean Patrick Fleming (Hudson Village Theatre‘s Art and The Drawer Boy) and stars solo actor Daniel Brochu (Last seen at Segal in Tribes).
Every Brilliant Thing will be presented in the Segal Centre Studio following all the appropriate provincial health and safety guidelines from October 24th to the 14th of November 2021.
HUGS, Roller coasters. Ice cream and the color yellow. As a child living with a mother battlling chronic depression, our protagonist , the boy feels the need to create a list of every brilliant thing he can dream of… if only to remind himself that life is still worthwhile.
This play examines in small details all the little things in life that we usually take for granted. Through ups and downs and with the passage of time, we see the boy grow and follow his journey as he celebrates joy and expresses gratefulness for the simple pleasures hiding all around us.
This heartwarming one-man show is intimate and (safely) interactive. It also shows to what lengths we are resillant, imaginative and capable of going miles to protect and up-lift those we care for.
Content Advisory:
- Content includes talk of suicide, pet euthanasia, and clinical depression
- Mature themes and strong language
- Socially-distanced audience participation
- Excessive praise of the 70s rock band Chicago

Sunday @ the Segal
On Sunday, October 24, at 11am, don’t miss the Every Brilliant Thing virtual edition of Sunday @ the Segal, as we gather a group of panelists who have played the role, often known as the Narrator or She/Him, to discuss their own understanding of this one-man show. Listen in as we discuss why this show has touched the hearts of so many, exploring how the different experiences of each actor shapes the way that the performance and character are received by audiences.
