The Northern Department Celebrates Milestone at Fort Ticonderoga

Fort Ticonderoga is marking another milestone, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the creation of the Northern Department in June 1775.

During the revolutionary war, the Northern Department was established as a military department of the Continental Army tasked with administering most of northern New York state and the surrounding region.
Today, the Northern Department has a new mission, connecting partners in New York, Vermont, and Canada and linking Revolutionary historic sites, museums, and parks to introduce new generations to the history of the region.

The Northern Department is also trying to bring more attention to towns and businesses too, as historical and cultural tourism plays a vital role in the regional economy.
