The 6th Annual BRUSH-OFF is Around the Corner!

Avenue Art is back with the annual “BRUSH-OFF”, the Juried Painting Competition that raises awareness and funds for art based projects for people living with Alzheimer’s disease.

For the first time, Mountain Lake PBS is partnering with Avenue Art for the BRUSH-OFF.  Together we will spotlight artists, the community and projects that will directly benefit from some of the funds raised.

The Brush-Off 2016 judges, winner and sponsors. Marina Cutler, ‘organizatrice extraordinaire’ and MLPBS partner is on the far right.

“Partnering with Mountain Lake PBS is a natural fit. The Brush Off brings community, culture and creativity together while inspiring and enriching its audience…the qualities that I have always admired about PBS and their focus.”   – Marina Cutler, President, Avenue Art

In the past, the BRUSH-OFF has been a uniquely Canadian competition. As part of this new partnership, Avenue Art & the “Brush Off” have expanded submissions to include works from artists within the Mountain Lake Region, Adirondacks and Champlain Valley along with artists from across Canada. The exhibition gives much needed public exposure to talented emerging artists, while at the same time sparking interest, conversation and inspiration in the visitors attending the exhibition.

There are 3 juried awards: “The Brush Off Award” of $1,500, as well as 2nd and 3rd prizes. In addition to the awards chosen by the jurors during the Opening Night Awards Ceremony, there is also the highly anticipated People’s Choice Prizes. All attendees of the Opening Night Awards Ceremony receive a ballot to vote for their personal favourite.

Submissions for the the 6th annual BRUSH OFF were due in April. Submissions were received from across Canada and the Mountain Lake PBS region.  Over the past weeks, the judges have been meeting to decide which of the submissions will make it through the first hurdle and be part of the actual competition.

The Opening Night Fundraiser Cocktail & Awards Ceremony will take place at Westmount Square in Montreal this September. The process, jury discussions, Gala and features of some of the artists will be documented in a short reality-doc, which will be featured on the Mountain Lake PBS website and on-air.

“We are very excited to be embarking upon this partnership and know that this is the beginning of a fruitful and long-term relationship for both parties. The partnership and expertise of Marina Cutler and The Brush Off will draw excitement for MLPBS and Canadian Friends.” – Bill McColgan, President and CEO, Mountain Lake PBS
