Take Action Now to Protect Funding for Mountain Lake PBS

Many across our region have asked how they can support Mountain Lake PBS after the House voted to eliminate all federal funding for public media — a move that would devastate local stations like ours.

On Wednesday, June 25, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will participate in a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing on that rescissions package, which includes a proposal to take back $1.1 billion in already-approved funding for public media.

As a member of that committee, Senator Gillibrand may have the chance to influence or amend the package. Now is the time to speak up.

Please call Senator Gillibrand’s office at (202) 224-4451.

When you call:

  • Share your name, town, and contact info (especially if leaving a voicemail).
  • Say you support Mountain Lake PBS and that cutting public media funding would directly harm essential services in your community.
  • Urge her to remove the proposal to cut public media from the rescissions package.

Phone calls are the most effective way to make your voice heard. If you’re unable to call, send an email today — but don’t wait. Time is short.

Let us know when you’ve reached out. Your feedback helps us track outreach and understand how the message is being received.

Federal funding helps Mountain Lake PBS:

  • Deliver trusted news and cultural storytelling across northern New York with Mountain Lake Journal.
  • Provide free educational programming and outreach for children and families in local classrooms with PBS LearningMedia, our PBS KIDS Play Dates, and initiatives like the Beyond the Peaks Student Film Festival.
  • Share local arts, history, and culture like on Music from Meadowmount, and Mountain Lake Journal’s Spotlight segment.

If this funding is rescinded, we face deep cuts to local programs, educational initiatives, staffing, and services.

Several Senators have already raised serious concerns about the impact of these cuts. This is a critical moment to make sure your Senator hears directly from you, demonstrating just how much this service matters and increasing pressure to reconsider this harmful proposal.

Thank you for standing with Mountain Lake PBS.
