“Swatting” calls plague schools across New York

It was a scary week for students, teachers, and parents at Plattsburgh High School and dozens of other schools throughout the North Country and across New York State that received calls reporting an active shooter. The calls were a hoax. So were emails that closed down several other schools this week.

State Police say they don’t know where the calls came from, or who is responsible, but they have told the Governor, that it was “probably” from outside the United States. The schools that were targeted went into lockdown until police could respond, and make sure the threats were a unfounded. The FBI is now working with State Police on the case to try to identify who’s responsible. So-called “swatting calls” have plagued school districts around the country for the past several months.

During a stop in Plattsburgh this week, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik also talked about the rash of calls & threats that have forced dozens of schools into Lockdown in recent weeks.
