“It is an honest and genuine glimpse into what veterans do to live, thrive and survive after they have served us all. Everyone should see it to know just some of the many sacrifices our veterans make in order for us to maintain our way of life.” said Tracy Guynup, Student Veterans Support Coordinator.

ON HOME GROUND is a documentary film that gives the viewer a true look into the lives of three veterans who are experiencing the transition into civilian life back home here in the North Country. Their small hometowns are scenic and peaceful, but also remote and isolating. The physical distance means limited access to essentials like healthcare, and a struggling local economy contributes to the widespread unemployment for veterans.

Years after coming back, each vet reflects on their homecoming, rebuilding relationships, grappling with physical and mental changes, and finding a unique, grounding camaraderie among fellow veterans. After all the sacrifice, when does home finally feel like home again?

“We’re especially excited to screen the program in a community where part of the story takes place,” said director Tomeka Weatherspoon. “The North Country is a unique place to live, and it has uniquely affected the individuals featured in the film. I’m looking forward to seeing how community viewers respond to these perspectives.”
