About 200 community leaders and supporters of Representative Elise Stefanik gathered in Plattsburgh to thank Stefanik for her decade representing the North Country in Congress. The Congresswoman has been nominated by President Donald Trump to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. With her nomination winning bi-partisan support from members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, her confirmation vote now heads on to the full Senate.
The weekend event was a celebration of Stefanik and a lookback on her decade in Congress. Speakers praised Stefanik’s work on behalf of the North Country, especially on critical cross border issues, and said she has made a lasting, positive difference, for people living here in Northern New York’s 21st Congressional District.
The Congresswoman said she was “overwhelmed” by the show of support. It’s unclear exactly when Stefanik’s nomination will go before the full Senate. If she is, indeed, confirmed and resigns, then New York Governor Kathy Hochul will call a special election to fill her seat in Congress.
