Stefanik Confirmation Hearing for UN Ambassador

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik went before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this week for her confirmation hearing to be the next Ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik, who has represented Northern New York’s 21st District in Congress for a decade, is a loyal ally to President Donald Trump, and chair of the House Republican Conference.

While she has little foreign policy experience, the Congresswoman has been vocal about Israel and its war with Hamas. Stefanik said she would review the effectiveness and efficiency of every UN agency and do a “complete reassessment” of the amount of U.S. funding for the UN.

If the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approves Stefanik’s nomination, it will go to a vote before the full Senate. If confirmed, when Stefanik gives up her seat in Congress, a special election will be called in the next few months to choose a successor.
