With Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s nomination to become the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, there will be a special election called if and when Stefanik is confirmed and vacates her seat in the House of Representatives.
This past week, State Senator Dan Stec, announced his intention to jump into that race and seek the Republican nomination for the NY 21 Seat in Congress, if and when it opens. Stec, who has served since 2013 in both the New York State Assembly and State Senate here in the North Country says he believes he’s the most experienced candidate to fill that seat. He’s one of several Republican candidates who intend to run.
If Stefanik wins confirmation and steps down from her seat in Congress, Governor Kathy Hochul will have 10 days to call a special election to elect a new member of Congress by late March or April.
