While New York City often gets a lot of attention and support from Albany, smaller cities in New York often see a lot less, but lawmakers want to see that change.
The State Senate has launched a bipartisan listening tour over the next couple of weeks to hear what local leaders, and stakeholders think could be done to boost 8 of New York’s smaller cities.
The topics discussed over the hour and a half focused on infrastructure, downtown redevelopment, childcare, education, and housing needs. The listening tour is being led by Democratic State Senator Jeremy Cooney from Rochester, who has said he will identify priorities that will result in proposed legislation. North Country Senator Dan Stec says having the support from senators on the other side of the aisle, like Cooney, will benefit the North Country.
