New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie visited Plattsburgh to announce $4.5 million in state funding to help build a new YMCA. The planned $19 million facility will transform an aging wellness center on the former Air Force base into a modern community hub with a new pool, fitness areas, and a kitchen to serve local families. YMCA leaders say the project will double swimming lesson capacity and expand services for all ages. With the latest funding, the Y has secured $12.5 million so far and plans to begin renovations soon, aiming to open the new center in 2026.
