A new Siena Research Institute poll shows support for Kamala Harris has grown in New York over the past few weeks. Harris has opened up a 19-point lead in the race for president. That’s up from a poll in September when Harris held a 13-point lead over Donald Trump in New York.
The only other statewide race on the ballot is between U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who is seeking a third term, and her Republican challenger, Mike Sapraicone. The Siena poll shows Gillibrand in the lead with support from 57 percent of the voters to Sapraicone’s 31 percent.
A growing number of voters are now backing Proposition 1 that’s on the backside of the ballot in New York this year. Prop 1, also known as the Equal Rights Amendment, would add protection for several new groups under the state constitution. Right now, the constitution only prohibits discrimination based on race, color, creed and religion.
Prop 1 now has support from 69 percent of voters, the latest Siena poll found, compared to 64 percent in the last poll in September.
