Senate to Vote on Devastating Public Media Funding Cuts This Week

This week, the U.S. Senate will vote on the Rescissions Act, which would cancel money already approved for stations like Mountain Lake PBS.

If it passes, it will mean significant and immediate cuts, risking our ability to provide:

  • Emergency alerts and warnings that reach homes even when internet and cell service go down
  • Local shows and documentaries about the people and places in our Mountain Lake region
  • Educational resources for families, teachers, and young children who rely on PBS at home and in the classroom
  • Civic coverage and community conversations that help people stay informed and connected
  • Broadcast signals in rural and remote areas with few other options

Some stations across the country could be forced off the air completely.

Public media funding costs the government about $1.60 per person per year. For that small amount, communities get trusted news, learning tools, and life-saving information — available to everyone, no matter where they live or what they can afford.

If Congress pulls that funding, those services go away.

The Senate has until Friday, July 18 to vote on this measure. We have just a few days to speak up.
