An overpass on the Adirondack Northway near Schroon Lake has been named in honor of fallen New York State Trooper Lawrence Gleason who was shot and killed while investigating a domestic incident in Crown Point in 2002.
Current and retired New York State Police officers, Trooper Gleason’s family, and community members gathered in late June for a ceremony and to place new signs on Interstate 87 at the Charley Hill Road overpass in the Town of Schroon, that will now be known as the Trooper Lawrence P. Gleason Memorial Bridge.
North Country State Senator Dan Stec and Assemblyman Matt Simpson both sponsored the legislation to dedicate the bridge in Gleason’s honor and they presented a replica of the sign to his parents and sister. The NYSP also honored Trooper Gleason by naming one of their K9 police dogs after him. Gleason, and his handler Trooper Anthony Cumm also attended the ceremony.
