The Russian invasion of Ukraine is causing hundreds of thousands to flee, including Americans living there. Among them is a young teacher who grew up in Northern New York in the small town of Willsboro, in Essex County. Connor Steeves has been living in the Capital city of Kyiv, working as a teacher for a program his grandfather started with the University of Kyiv 20-years ago, doing mission work with students and alumni and working with the local orphanage. Connor’s mother, Julie, says the first few days of the invasion were nothing short of terrifying for their family as their son fled the country. Steeves was able to evacuate Kyiv safely and cross the border into Poland. But after just a day in Krakow, Connor hopped back on a bus to head back into Ukraine to volunteer helping refugees and villagers in a small-town bordering Romania.
