Review of Graduation Measures in New York State – North Country Regional Meeting

The 2020 Graduation Measures Regional State Plan Development Meeting, hosted by Champlain Valley Educational Services Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES and St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, was held on February 3rd, 2020 in Malone, NY. The meeting was chaired by Beverly Ouderkirk, Regent 4th Judicial District NYS Board of Regents. Educators and members of the community gathered for an open discussion regarding the state-wide graduation requirements.

In July 2019, Chancellor Betty A. Rosa and the Board of Regents announced they will create a Blue Ribbon Commission to review the State’s high school graduation measures and reaffirm what it means to obtain a diploma in New York State. The Commission will examine what a State diploma should signify to ensure educational excellence and equity for every student in New York State. Regional Meetings are being held across the state to help inform the work of the Blue Ribbon Commission, the Board of Regents and the State Education Department. This meeting, held on February 3rd in Malone NY, was hosted by the three BOCES serving the North Country… Champlain Valley Educational Services, Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES and St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES.  Dozens of educators and community members gathered to provide their opinions and input into this important process. Similar regional meetings are being held across the state through April 2020.
