Remembering Denny a Local Winter Olympic Legend

The Adirondack region and village of Lake Placid are mourning the loss of a local legend. For 37 years, Denny Allen wore many hats, as a youth hockey coach, managing the speed skating oval where Eric Heiden made Olympic History during the 1980 Winter Games, and then, for decades, as General Manager of the Olympic Center.

Allen, who retired last spring, died unexpectedly two weeks ago. Our Jack LaDuke shows us how his family, friends, and hundreds from the community gathered this past week to say goodbye. They held a memorial service in his honor that was in true “Denny” fashion.
