While New York State is moving ahead with plans to replace 34 miles of track with a multi-use recreational trail connecting the villages of Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid, the railroad that has been operating a tourist train on that rail line for several years is planning to offer a new way for visitors to “ride the rails” beginning next summer. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad has been testing rail bikes on a section of the rail line near Old Forge, with plans to bring the popular attraction to Saranac Lake by 2019.
