President Biden visits IBM in Poughkeepsie

President Biden came to New York’s Hudson Valley this week to visit IBM in Poughkeepsie. The trip was to highlight the CHIPS and Science Act, signed into law by the President this summer, which invests billions of dollars into the U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and research sector, which is a growing industry in upstate New York. The visit came just days after Micron Technology, one of the world’s largest computer chip manufacturers, announced plans to build a $100-billion semiconductor factory in the Syracuse suburbs that could create up to 50,000 jobs. The state of New York is offering Micron 5-and-a-half billion dollars in tax breaks and support for job training for what would be the largest economic development deal in the state’s history. Construction would begin in 2024.
