Death Pesos starts the Exhibitionists series off with a window-rattling set of driving, fuzzed-out basslines bolstering blistering guitar riffs. While not evangelically locals (they live in Boston), the band started in Burlington after guitarist Pete Schluter (formerly of the Sun Lions) and bassist Larry Frisoli graduated from UVM and St. Mike’s, respectively. The local legend, who will cringe at being described as such, has played in just about every great Burlington band you’ve never heard of and some you have. Way back when, he was a member of The Fags along with Eugene Hutz (later of Gogol Bordello). More recently, he leads Blue Button, the closest thing to the Heartbreakers these hills will ever know.

Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, 153 Main St
Burlington, VT 05401 United States

Sleeping In has quickly come to tower over their musical peers. Perhaps abetting in this is their volume, an appeasing warm wash of sound that used to skew shoegaze and has since evolved into more psych-oriented fare on par with Connecticut slop rockers Ovlov or Lowell’s Big Mess. They are a healthy dose of heavy for a city still recovering from decades of jam band abuse.
