Open canvas: Foothills Art Society welcomes the community

Many people know Malone, New York, as a place where the visual and performing arts thrive, and that’s thanks in large part to Foothills Art Society. As the organization finds new uses for the building they’ve inhabited for three years, programs and exhibits aim to attract a greater number of people to it.

Foothills Art Society board member Marrianne Goodfellow and Chair of the Program Committee Lorraine Cartier discuss their plans for the current season, and for the building itself, with Spotlight producer Paul Larson. Board member Jenny Gessler also offers insight.

The Malone Arts and Cultural Center is located at 43 Pearl Street in Malone. It houses a stage, office space and the North Star Gallery on Pearl.

The exhibit Historical Buildings of the St. Lawrence Valley and Northern New York by Ron Steenberge runs until January 31. From February 6 until February 28, you may visit the Multicultural Art Exhibit– Art Representing Multiple American Cultures and an Underground Railroad display.

Events and activities of Foothills Art Society are not just for Malone residents. Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities and to volunteer for the organization. Head to foothillsartsociety.com for more information.

Spotlight is made possible, in part, by the Glenn and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation, dedicated to improving the quality of life for year-round residents of the Adirondack Park. Spotlight is also supported by Hill and Hollow Music.
