Last Saturday December 21st, within the convivial surroundings of Salle Claude-Léveillée of Montreal’s Place des Arts, young Italian crooner David Marino delivered a performance that confirmed his place as one of Canada’s rising vocal talents.
At just 26, Marino exuded effortless charm and charisma, captivating the audience with his velvety voice and timeless style.
From the very first note, audiences were left awestruck by the artistry demonstrated by this young performer who seamlessly transported us back to the golden age of great crooners—Sinatra, Bennett, Como—as well as today’s icons like singer-songwriter Michael Bublé.
Accompanied by an outstanding quartet of musicians—John Gilbert on piano, Nick Di Giovanni on guitar, Mike de Masi on bass, and Rich Irwin on drums—Marino transported the audience into a world of nostalgia, weaving together holiday classics, jazz standards and heartfelt ballads with his unique flair.
Each member of his band added a layer of sophistication to the performance, with stunning solos and seamless synergy, making it a true feast for jazz ensemble enthusiasts.
Marino’s smooth vocals, combined with an instinctive sense of showmanship, had the crowd swaying and smiling throughout the evening.
Marino’s overall stage presence was magnetic, his connection with the audience palpable as he shared stories and humor between songs. Having his family present in the audience added an extra later to the performance. It was very touching to hear some personal family anecdotes or see the joy in the faces of his relatives as he performed some of their favorite songs such as “Caruso” dedicated to his Grandfather.
Though there are no new performance dates scheduled in Montreal for now, fans can look forward to seeing Marino at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club in New York this December 30th.
If this show was any indication, Marino is well on his way to making an indelible mark on the international music scene.
Keep an eye on this talented crooner—you’ll want to say you saw him before he became a household name!
