Some North Country high school students were recognized by the state recently for giving back to their community. The entire sophomore class at Boquet Valley Central School in Elizabethtown was presented with a special award by the New York State School Board Association. The Culture of Caring Award is giving for positive acts in the community, which in this case was the students’ role in cleaning up the Boquet Cemetery in near-by New Russia, that was vandalized last year. More than 70 tombstones were toppled or damaged. Thanks to the students and others in the community, repairs were made over much of the summer last year, and the majority of the headstones are now fixed, and back in place.
Watch the story we did on the many volunteers who made that happen from last December: https://mountainlake.org/cemetery-vandalism-repaired/
