Local vets fly to see the memorials that honor them for the first time

North Country Honor Flight took 15 Veterans to Washington, D.C. on October 20th to visit the memorials in their honor.

Hundreds gathered on the Oval of the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base to give the veterans a huge send-off, including a parade to Plattsburgh International Airport. The veterans were greeted by more than 100 people including dozens of boy scouts and girl scouts at Dulles Airport, and then given a police escort into Washington to visit the nation’s war memorials and Arlington National Cemetery.

Producer/Videographer Michael Hansen and MLJ Host Thom Hallock followed along and will have the story this week on a special Veterans Day episode of Mountain Lake Journal.

On our website, you’ll find more of our interviews with the veterans who made the trip, their families and some of the volunteers, including Scott Aubin, who you may remember from our story a year ago.  You’ll also find some of our other stories on the 25 previous Honor Flights that have taken off from Plattsburgh since 2013: Veterans Coming Home
