North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones Announces Resignation

North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones announced that he’s resigning and giving up his seat in the New York State Assembly. He will give up the seat he has held since 2017 at the end of August. Jones says he is not stepping down to run for another political office, but to spend more time with his family, and to take on an opportunity that has come up in the community.
He wouldn’t say exactly what that position is, only that he’ll announce it before he steps down. Jones says while it will be hard to give up his seat, he has become frustrated with changes in politics in the years since he joined the Assembly, becoming more divisive & polarized.
It will be up to Governor Hochul to call for a special election to fill the 115th District Seat. The party chairs in Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties will be choosing the candidates.
