New York Lifts Mask Mandate for Schools

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the statewide order requiring indoor mask use in schools would be lifted this week, on March 2nd. The governor pointed to a drop in new COVID cases by 98% since omicron’s peak in early January. Counties and schools will still have the option to require masks, and parents can also choose to have their kids continue to wear masks.
We talk with Dale Breault, Superintendent of the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES District about the decision to allow students to go without masks.
The statewide union representing more than 600,000 teachers in New York released a statement applauding Hochul’s announcement.
