New Murals Painted and Dedicated in Plattsburgh

SUNY Plattsburgh and Outside Art, Plattsburgh’s Public Art Project, have teamed up to create a new mural that’s a tribute to the great Adirondack artist Rockwell Kent and a former SUNY Plattsburgh president, George Angell.

“North Country Dream” is the latest mural painted by Plattsburgh native Brendon Palmer-Angell, the grandson of the late SUNY Plattsburgh president. Half of the giant mural he painted on a wall of Hudson Hall overlooking Hawkins Pond is the view of the Adirondacks Mountains from his grandfather’s camp, while the other half is the view from Kent’s Asgaard Farm. Two SUNY Plattsburgh alums, Tom & Marie Hermes, funded the mural.

This past week, the Clinton County Historical Association unveiled a historic marker outside a house on Cumberland Avenue that two centuries ago was the home of two local poets, Margaret and Lucretia Davidson, who lived in the City of Plattsburgh during the 1800s. The sign was a gift from the William Pomeroy Foundation.

The sisters are featured on a mural that Brendon Palmer-Angell painted on the side of a market on Bridge Street earlier this summer. That mural was also dedicated this past week.

Palmer-Angell says the Davidson sisters represent the creativity that runs deep in the city.
