Motown the Musical comes to Montreal

Get ready to be blown away by the Big Voices and Amazing Stage Presence of numerous skilled performers as they brilliantly impersonate the beloved artists of the #Motown era with their flashy dance moves and acrobatic vocal skills!

Currently running from June 19th to the 24th at @Placedesarts here in Montreal, Motown: The Musical is a nostalgic trip down memory lane as the show features numerous popular music acts that dominated the radio charts during the 1960’s and 70’s. The musical had its premiere on Broadway back in April 2013.

The jukebox musical is based on Berry Gordy’s (played by Kenneth Mosley) autobiography To Be Loved: The Music, the Magic, the Memories of Motown (1994) and focuses around the history of his founding and running of the Motown record label.

The musical also centers on Gordy’s rocky personal and professional relationships with his top selling record Motown artists, such as his protégé and love interest Diana Ross (Trenyce) , Smokey Robinson (Justin Reynolds) and Marvin Gaye (Matt Manuel),

For music fans, the show is a veritable energy-packed 3 hours musical retrospective of ‘feel good’ music with chosen songs and lyrics taken from selections from the Motown catalog.

One of the crowd’s favorite moments was when young Kai Calhoun (who alternates performances with Chase Phillips), performs as a young Michael Jackson singing “The Love You Save /I Want You Back/ABC” medley with his fellow Jackson 5 brothers.

The show boasts plenty of opportunities to sing along and there is even an act that encourages talented fans to showcase their singing skills and have a moment to shine at the front of the stage ( waltzing ) alongside “Diana Ross” at her grand solo debut!

All in all, the talented cast of 25 performers will bring you on a nostalgic trip down memory lane with their charisma, talent and skills!
