When a massive Chinese industrial park is built in rural Ethiopia, promises of prosperity and progress quickly collide with the everyday realities of local workers and farmers. MADE IN ETHIOPIA follows three women—an ambitious Chinese factory director, a displaced Ethiopian farmer, and a hopeful young factory worker—as their lives intersect at the frontlines of globalization.
Filmed over four years with rare access, this intimate documentary explores the complex and often misunderstood relationship between Africa and China. Through the personal, it asks urgent questions about development, labor, gender, and what is gained—and lost—in the name of growth.
Premieres Monday, July 14, 2025 on Mountain Lake PBS and streaming on the PBS App.
