Get out your dancing shoes and get ready to PARTY: The spectacular Cuban musical revue “Les Nuits de La Havane” is currently running at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal from November 23rd to December 9th, 2023.
The powerhouse trio of Cuban-origin vocalists – Barbara Ruiz, Frank Gomez, and the musical maestro Andy Rubal – delivered an electrifying performance right from the beginning acts with crowd favorites such as Guantanamera and Bailando !
Backed by a stellar ensemble of six seasoned musicians and six captivating dancers, choreographed by the brilliant Julio Hong and directed by Vincent Egret, the synergy of sound and movement on stage was very palpable and inspired all those in the audience to start clapping along furiously to the Latin beats or to stand up and dance .
Les Nuits de La Havane took its audience on a sonic journey through the vibrant streets of Havana, showcasing the infectious beats of Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, and Pilón.
What struck me most was the seamless fusion of traditional Cuban rhythms with contemporary influences. The playlist, a harmonious blend of Buena Vista Social Club classics and hits by modern Latino luminaries like Marc Anthony and Gilberto Santa Rosa, told the story of Cuba’s musical evolution with finesse.
The show’s standout feature was its homage to Yoruba religious ceremonies, (a nod to Cuban santeria). This unique touch, woven into the musical direction, infused the performance with an undeniable spiritual energy.
The combination of Cuban and African heritage resulted in a jubilant celebration of music, dance, and sacred drumbeats, creating an atmosphere that was both festive and transcendent.
