Kisses Deep: A Haunting Quest for Beauty presented at the Centaur Theatre

After much anticipation , the play Kisses Deep has arrived at Montreal’s Centaur Theatre.

The story line is simple but defining: A young man, devoted to the pursuit of beauty, strives to rise above the harshness and ugliness that define his small-town reality.

The English-language world premiere of Kisses deep is an emotionally charged and visually magnetic production that confirms Michel Marc Bouchard as one of Quebec’s most fearless and poetic storytellers.

Under the fine direction of Eda Holmes, this gripping drama unfurls with elegance and urgency, inviting audiences into a world where fashion becomes both armour and a lifeline, and where healing begins in the delicate space between love and longing.

In this haunting and deeply compassionate tale, Bouchard introduces us to Hugo, ( Kevin Raymond ) a young dreamer in smalltown Québec whose devotion to high fashion becomes the shimmering thread holding his fractured world together.

Inspired by his idol Yves Saint Laurent, he pours his heart into designing the perfect court outfit to redeem his mother Béatrice ( Leni Parker) in the eyes of his small town community after a very public confrontation with his school teacher Madame Maryse… His greatest achievement is perhaps healing himself.

Kisses Deep stitches together the raw complexities of family, ambition, identity, and the desperate human desire to be seen and heard.

The ensemble cast (featuring Lyndz Dantiste, Yves Jacques, Leni Parker, Alice Pascual, and breakout newcomer Kevin Raymond), delivered an overall strong performance that anchors the play’s emotional sweep.

On the November 29th matinee performance, the role of Madame Maryse was performed with much charm by Amelia Sargisson.

Linda Gaboriau’s exquisite English translation preserves every rhythmic pulse and lyrical nuance of Bouchard’s original text, offering audiences a version that feels both faithful and fiercely alive.

In combination with Holmes’ sharp, evocative staging, the play becomes a powerful bridge, uniting cultures, languages, and audiences through a shared emotional experience.

Do not miss Kisses Deep, a play that dares to look closely, love fiercely, and dream fearlessly.
