Housing, and the growing number of people who are homeless were on the minds of the many community leaders who puckered up for a good cause at the United Way’s yearly “Kiss the Cow” event held at the Miner Institute in Chazy.
This year, they hoped to raise $10,000 for homelessness prevention. We told you last month about the preliminary numbers from this year’s Clinton County Point in Time Count showing for a 4th year in a row that the area’s homeless population is growing significantly.
Christine Peters, the commissioner of the Clinton County Department of Social Services, says money from this event and the United Way’s “ALICE FUND” helps fill the gaps. And that, Peters says, can help families get by and stay in their homes.
The cow kissing event also capped off the United Way’s yearly fundraising campaign which brought in just shy of $700,000 to help partner agencies help families in need in Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties.
