Words communicate the mental, music transmits the emotional, and dance conveys the physical.
Welcoming the Spring season and the beginning of a New Year,
From this Wednesday, March 30th until the 2nd of April , MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) is delighted to invite you to attend the Montreal premiere of Kismet قسمت , a musical dance performance by Toronto choreographer / dancer Sashar Zarif.
This ritual explores the choice between accepting fate or creating destiny. A thrumming auditory call reverberates among the all-male quintet of dancers and singers whose bodies collaboratively create painterly images, spilling one into another.
Kismet قسمت is presented in Zarif’s contemporary style , re-imagining Mugham that integrates dance, music, and storytelling, which are in turn, inspired and informed by the Sufi and Shamanic rituals of nomadic Islamic societies.
In it, words communicate the intellectual, music transmits the emotional, and dance conveys the physical experience. These influences on the work are deeply rooted in Sashar Zarif’s nomadic ancestry.
KISMET – Presented March 30th to April 2nd, 2022:
Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
