North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones has decided not to seek the NY 21 Seat in Congress expected to open if and when current Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is confirmed to be President-Elect Trump’s new U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik has been nominated and faces a Senate confirmation hearing. If confirmed, she will vacate her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and New York Governor Kathy Hochul will then call a special election to fill her seat in Congress.
Jones was one of several Democrats who has expressed an interest in running for that seat. He said late Friday after several weeks of consideration that he has decided he will not pursue the Democratic nomination.
