John Bernardi and Jamie Basiliere discuss struggles of ALICE families

Half of the population in the North Country falls into the ALICE threshold.  ALICE is short for asset limited, income constrained, employed.

Many ALICE families and individuals have good paying jobs, but are still facing financial challenges.  The United Way’s CEO, John Bernardi, joins us to talk about how the United Way’s partner agencies are offering services to help these families and individuals.

We are also joined by Jamie Basiliere, Executive Director of the Child Care Coordinating Council of the North Country to talk about a special event next Saturday, October 19th from 10am-12noon at the Family Resource Center at 194 U.S. Oval in Plattsburgh. Families are invited to meet with lawmakers and community leaders to talk about the financial and other challenges they face. To register to attend, call 518-561-4999.

Watch our extended interview with John Bernardi on how the North Country is combating the opioid epidemic.

Watch our Mountain Lake Journal Community Forum on the high number of ALICE households in the North Country from November 2017.
