We want to share the loss of two friends this week.
John Zurlo, the long-time Clinton County Clerk, has died. John was one of the county’s longest serving, and most respected politicians. He became a county legislator after 35 years as a schoolteacher with the Northeastern Clinton Central School District. He then went on to become County Clerk in 1995 and was re-elected seven times. He was the longest-serving County Clerk in the history of Clinton County. John died at his home earlier this month after an illness associated with kidney disease. He was 86.
We here at Mountain Lake PBS have lost a good friend and colleague. Earl Baucom was in charge of our Master-Control Operations here at the station, making sure all our PBS programs made it to the airwaves. Before that, Earl was Operations Manager of WCFE-FM, the public radio station here in Plattsburgh for many years. Earl was a talented artist and film buff who also had a starring role in one of our productions here at Mountain Lake PBS, a holiday classic from 2002, called An Adirondack Christmas Carol. Earl Baucom passed away at his home in Plattsburgh the week of Thanksgiving. He was 62.
