Healing Adirondack play has world premiere this month

The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts presents the world premiere play The Cure: An Adirondack Story by playwright Frederic Glover of Canton, New York.

Set during the summer of 1936 and earlier, The Cure: An Adirondack Story focuses on a fictional character named Margaret. a writer from New York City, as she seeks “the cure” for her case of tuberculosis at the famous Adirondack Cottage Sanitarium in Saranac Lake. Her story intertwines with the life and struggles of Dr. Edward Trudeau, a driven, deeply compassionate man who devoted himself to finding a cure for the dreaded disease in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The stories of Margaret and Dr. Trudeau combine to celebrate the importance of community in healing while emphasizing the struggle to transcend a deadly pandemic.

Appropriate for ages 12 and up, the play is a fictional and non-biographical piece, even though it’s partly inspired by people and events from the history of Saranac Lake. Audiences may expect a dramatic story with touches of comedy and romance relieving the serious tone.

The Cure: An Adirondack Story is the final production of the 2024 ADK LAKES Theatre Festival.
