Harborside Season Finale: Too Tall String Band

One of the most popular professional musical ensembles in the North County will take the stage on September 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the finale of the Curbside At Harborside season — the 25th concert presented since this unique series began amid the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

The Too Tall String Band has delighted audiences since 1984, performing music ranging from traditional Celtic classics and English sea shanties to American roots county tunes to folk-infused favorites of the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s. They have played everywhere from the Goodwill Games in Lake Placid to First Night celebrations on both sides of Lake Champlain, and are mainstays at the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration weekend, the Palmer Street Coffeehouse, Concerts On The Bluff, and many other favorite area venues.

Comprised of Rod Driscoll, Bruce Lawson, and Hap Wheeler, the trio plays a dizzying array of string instruments in each concert: hammered dulcimer, mandolin, six- and twelve-string guitar, banjo, dobro, and even the Greek bouzouki.

Gates open for parking at the Harborside Stage (2 Dock Street, adjacent to the City of Plattsburgh Marina and behind the D&H Railroad Station) at 6:30 p.m., with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per carload, with all proceeds going to the artists.

Audience members may sit outside of their vehicles on lawn chairs or blankets, or remain inside their cars and enjoy the music broadcast directly from the stage over their car radio. Attendees who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 do not have to wear masks, but all attendees are requested to refrain from bringing alcohol or pets (service animals are welcome) into the Harborside area.

The organizers thank The Mariner Bar & Grill and Re/Max North Country for their generous sponsorship of this concert. The Mariner’s sponsorship is given in honor of all of the first responders of the North who have worked tirelessly to save lives and enhance public health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
