For next week’s Watch & Wonder Highlight, we’re thrilled to feature the film Groundbreakers. After watching, dive deeper with resources about the extraordinary lives and accomplishments of tennis great Billie Jean King and basketball star Rebecca Lobo on PBS LearningMedia.

Celebrate 50 years of female excellence in sports through the eyes of athletes who changed the system. Hosted by sports icon and champion of equality Billie Jean King, Groundbreakers weaves together eight athletes’ discussions of how their own struggles and achievements shaped women’s sports. Features Naomi Osaka, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Chloe Kim, Nancy Lieberman, Suni Lee, Julie Foudy and Diana Flores.

Women on the Court: Billie Jean King to Rebecca Lobo

Grades 9-12
Students will learn about two influential figures in women’s sports in this media gallery from Finding Your Roots. By examining the lives of tennis great Billie Jean King and basketball star Rebecca Lobo, students will learn more about the accomplishments of these women—ranging from winning the “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match in 1973 to being a pioneer in women’s professional basketball.

In school or at home, take advantage of the Watch & Wonder broadcast schedule. Running each weekday from 1-3 PM, Watch & Wonder is great for classroom viewing, distance instruction, and families looking to spend some extra, quality time together.
