New York Governor Kathy Hochul lays out her legislative agenda for the new year focusing on lowering the cost of living and making life more affordable for families. Hochul offered up several proposals aimed at bringing down costs, especially for families with children. She’s calling for a cut in taxes for middle-class families, offering up what she’s calling an “Inflation Tax Refund” which is a rebate of up to 500 dollars for families.
She wants to increase the child tax credit up to a thousand dollars per child, invest more than 100-million dollars to expand childcare centers across the state, and the governor wants to offer universal free school breakfast & lunch.
The Governor also wants to offer free tuition to state and city colleges for students who want to get associates degrees in high-demand fields.
We talked with Assembly Members Billy Jones and Matt Simpson, as well as State Senator Dan Stec to get their thoughts about the Governor’s address and legislative agenda for the year.
