The next Winter Olympics will be held in Northern Italy in two years, in 2026. But, in an unusual twist, there is a chance that some of the sliding events for those Winter Games could possibly wind up being held outside of Italy in another country. And the United States and Lake Placid are among those who have submitted a bid to host the events. Tracks in Austria & Switzerland would be much closer and are considered the best options.
But Lake Placid, which has a state-of-the-art sliding center that the State of New York has invested millions of dollars to upgrade in recent years has submitted a bid as well to host the bobsled, skeleton & luge events in Lake Placid, and hold the awards ceremonies in New York City.
